Brutal, sludgy, precise, dark, atmospheric, and surprisingly catchy, Nephelium tackle death metal with the precision of a surgeon’s hand, or a Jigsaw trap. If you’re looking for some new death metal to sink your teeth into, this is it.
If you don’t believe us, we dare you to check out samples from the six-track opus just below. As an added bonus you get a free download of “Merciless Annihilation,” an intricate, tough-as-nails, riff-ridden, technical masterpiece.
Dubai can now boast having death metal as one of its commodities. That’s right, Nephelium has emerged from the sands of Dubai and they’re as metal as the desert city’s infrastructure. Dubai is a city known more for its exotic luxury and non-nationals than its metal scene, which makes Nephelium a bit of a dark horse.
The band can be traced back to the late ‘90s, when guitarist Alex Zubair and drummer Alan Madhavan put it together. Now, a decade on, Nephelium call Toronto, Canada, home and are set to release their debut album, Coils of Entropy, in 2012. We’re not sure why they would settle on Toronto as their base of operations since it’s not exactly the death metal bed of North America.
