It’s not a surprise anymore that Sony and Microsoft plan to launch their next-gen consoles pretty soon. In fact, reports suggest that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720 are expected to be in retail stores later this year. Since this is still just a rumor and nothing has been officially announced by either company, the big question everyone is probably wondering at the moment is: When and who will take the first leap to launch the next-gen console?

From what I know, the one who takes the first leap could have all the advantages in the world, if things aren’t planned carefully, of course. That’s obviously only my opinion and I’m in no way qualified to give anyone advice on what to do when it comes time to launch new technology. However, if I use Apple as an example, I’m convinced that taking the lead in innovation and launching new tech before everyone else has been their winning factor over the years.

However, the President and CEO of Sony Corporation, Kaz Hirai, views things differently this time around for the PlayStation 4. If you remember, PS3 launched before the Xbox 360 back in 2006. Hirai recently suggested in an interview with The Times that it makes more sense for them to release the PS4 after the Xbox 720.

“Why go first when your competitors can look at your specifications and come up with something better?”

The funny thing is that unofficial specs for the Xbox 720 were leaked yesterday, according to a report by VGLeaks, who acquired the technical documents of the machine from an unknown source. If the specs below are true, then I’m thinking Sony has nothing to worry about based on what Hirai said.

Don’t they have the upper hand now?
