Former STRIKEFORCE Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz is unofficially back in the UFC. The Stockton bad boy is playing the matchmaking game again by picking a fight with the new UFC Welterweight Champion, Johny Hendricks, who recently defeated Robbie Lawler by unanimous decision in a five-round war for the strap.
Over the weekend, the UFC invited Diaz to attended UFC 171, which obviously means they want to see him fight again inside the Octagon very soon. However, in an interview with Sportsnet Canada, Diaz thinks they will give him an immediate fight with Hendricks, cutting in front of Tyron Woodley and Hector Lombard:
Trying to get a fight this year. Talked to Dana [White], hardly, but he knows my mindset. He knows where I’m at. Behind the scenes here [in Dallas] everyone knows what’s going on. That’s what’s up. Me in a title fight. I need a real fight. Let the fans have what they want to see. That’s why I’m here.
In addition, Diaz said that Hendricks had an “amateur style” and got an “ass whooping” by Lawler on Saturday night:
Maybe [UFC] want me to Johny Hendricks. Take an ass whooping. Right to your face, bro. Worse than tonight, because you got your ass whooped all four rounds. I seen it. I seen your little amateur style. I’m ready to fight. I’m ready to fight the right fight.
Before retiring, Diaz had back-to-back losses to Carlos Condit and former UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St-Pierre. So, we’ll see very soon who the UFC will officially stack him up against in his return fight.
