Official Trailer For Kevin Smith’s Red State Released

Most of you know Kevin Smith as the director of films such as Dogma, Clerks, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and regrettably, Jersey Girl and Gigli. But what you may not know is that Kevin Smith has an upcoming action-horror film that does a total 360 from the movies that he usually helms.

The story takes place in Middle America and focuses on three predictably horny teenage boys who receive an online invitation for sex from an older woman. The three boys venture out to trailer parks unknown to get their rocks off but end up finding more than they were bargaining for in the form of a fundamental religious cult that seems to have largely borrowed elements from the likes of the Westboro Baptist Church (members of which were invited to a screening of the film – they walked out in disgust after fifteen minutes) who have a sinister agenda.

Red State also looks to be taking direction from recent re-imaginings and the resurgence of grindhouse/exploitation films and seems reminiscent of The Devil’s Rejects.

The movie features a number of walloping up and comers as well as screen vets to the tune of: Kyle Gallner (Veronica Mars, Nightmare on Elm Street reboot), Michael Angarano (Lords of Dogtown), Nicholas Braun (CSI), Michael Parks (Grindhouse, Kill Bill), John Goodman (O Brother Where Art Thou?), and Academy Award winner Melissa Leo (The Fighter).

The film is set to be released on October 19th – just in time for Halloween.
