Wearing alternative clothing makes a statement, but it’s not always the statement you want. You certainly don’t want to wear alt gear that says, “I’m a huge douche, yo!” And the sad thing is that those who wear the wrong alt clothing don’t even know the implications of what they’re statement is.
This is not the case with Ominous Clothing, an alt brand coming out of Phoenix, Arizona. Catering to both men and women, Ominous is a family-owned business soon to be found in a store near you.
Praising the dark and sinister, our Danailya Reese had a chat with the company’s co-owner, Janine. Find out more about your next favorite clothing brand with the help of our interview.
Tell me how Ominous Clothing came to be and when.
Ominous Clothing is a collaboration between my nephew, Jak Connolly, my husband, David, and my partner, Jim.
What are some of the ideals behind Ominous Clothing, and why did you decide on “Ominous Clothing” for your name?
Ominous clothing is only my nephew’s art. He is a world-renowned tattoo artist known for his dark realism. Jak decided on the name while we were on the phone one afternoon because it perfectly represents the art work – dark and sinister!
You offer a large range of products, can you tell me about what you have available?
We have everything from hats to shirts to hoodies to phone cases to tanks to even bikinis.

What makes you different from every other clothing line?
Ominous Clothing is more than just a typical tattoo clothing company. From the beginning of our conception, Ominous has gathered a tight knit group of people to form an incredible community of staff, models, business associates, fans, and customers. We have several social network sites that allow anyone the opportunity to be a part of our mind-blowing creation. Ominous Clothing has teamed up with some amazing tattoo clothing models to show off our insidious designs, these are our Ominous Souls. You can follow our Ominous Souls via all our social networks or their social networks which are made readily available. As a customer or fan we invite you to become an Ominous Addict and be a part of our community.
It seems that there are new street-culture brands popping up on the scene every day, how do you guys do such a good job of separating yourselves from the rest of the crowd?
It is easy to separate ourselves because we are not street culture, but dark realism.
Where do you get the inspiration for the designs? What helps you think of them?
My nephew is the only artist of Ominous.
What are your target markets?
We are a tattoo-inspired dark-realism line, geared more towards tattooed people, of course, but we hope that anyone and everyone would enjoy our clothes; from lawyers to doctors to tattoo enthusiasts.
Would you ever collaborate with other clothing lines sometime in the future?
We are open to a lot of things!
Tell me a bit about your Brand Representatives. You have some pretty big names! How does one become a brand rep for Ominous and what does it entail?
We have some amazing Souls… Our Ominous Souls, Rachelle Hoffman, Charlie Paige, Matty Ort, Paul Blake, Steve Gehrke, Wesley Dutchman, Lance Jones, Jeff Morawski, Eric Gregoire, and Kaylin Milligan. Funny story, I was so nervous to contact Rachelle Hoffman when we first started. I thought for sure she would not message me back but she did! I was SO happy! We have become very good friends and I couldn’t imagine going one day not texting with her! She and all of them have become so important to me and us all! I also must say that some of these “souls” didn’t know each other before Ominous and now they are the greatest of friends! I think Ominous is to thank for that!
Ominous clothing is available through your online website; tell me, does the Internet play a large role in the success of Ominous clothing?
At the moment online is a big part of our sales, but at the beginning of April we will be in stores all over the world! We are so excited for the next level!
Tell me about your upcoming appearance at “Magic Market Week” in August.
We hope at this time to be picked up at even more stores! We did great at the last Magic event in February! We are really starting to take off! We will soon be in a store near you!
What does the future hold for Ominous Clothing? What should your followers expect to see in 2014?
We hope to be on the souls of many more people across the world!
