Bellator 183: Paul Daley Defeats Lorenz Larkin, Hoping For A Title Shot Next

Paul Daley is back in the winning track! The English knockout artist just placed Lorenz Larkin’s into a bodybag at Bellator 183 following a huge punch, which sent Larkin’s straight down to the mat.

Despite being stunned multiple times by punches in the first round by the former UFC fighter, Daley quickly turned things around in the second round to win the fight via knockout in the second round. The victory clearly puts him back into title contention, but it also sounds like a fight with Michael “Venom” Page is potentially in the works.

However, if he had the choice today to pick someone under the Bellator banner, it would not be Page. According to him, he deserves something much more lucrative.

Daley said,

Not really. It’s not the main thing on my horizon, but it’s the thing other people have spoken about. It’s something people think I’m agreeing to. I want people to know that a win over Lorenz elevates me above an MVP fight. We’ll have to see what MVP does next. He’s boxing, an immediate fight is not there.

Instead of a match with Page, Daley would “love” a title shot between the winner of Bellator welterweight champion Douglas Lima and Rory MacDonald, which is targeted for Jan. 20 at the Forum in Los Angeles.

I’d love to fight for the title, I’ve never fought for the title in a major organization, UFC or Bellator. I’ve come so close.

If MacDonald defeats Lima, a rematch is unavoidable. Daley thinks he can make adjustments in training to prepare better for the Canadian.

For a rematch with Rory, if he beats Lima, I’d have to concentrate on different areas of my game. I thought (the first fight) would be another Robbie Lawler slugfest, but he went to his strengths and went immediately for takedowns. Looking at the first fight, I’d make big adjustments in training camp, and I’ll come in with a different mentality.
