Paul Gray‘s widow, Brenna Gray, testified yesterday in the Dr. Daniel Baldi trial. The Des Moines doctor is on trial in Polk County District Court, facing nine counts of involuntary manslaughter as the result of careless prescription habits, including the late Slipknot bassist and founding member’s.
In her testimony, Brenna revealed many details about Paul’s final days before his fatal drug overdose in 2010. Among her concerns was Paul’s addiction to Xanax and why Baldi continued to prescribe the anti-axiety drug:
I just knew it was his drug of choice, that he’d struggled with it. So I just wasn’t really sure why he was on it, why he needed it along with the medication he was taking for addiction.
Brenna also said that she tried in vain to get Baldi to take Paul’s drug addiction more seriously, to the point that she brought him pictures of her husband when he was passed out. Guy Cook, Baldi’s attorney, pointed out that Baldi had tapered down Paul’s Xanax dosage in order to wean him off the drug, to which she replied, “Finally, yes, it was reduced.” Cook also said that there was no record in Baldi’s files about the pictures of her passed-out husband or of her informing him about the hypodermic needle she had found in the toilet. Brenna answered that “a lot of things weren’t noted in there.”
Additionally, in her hour-long testimony, Brenna stated that there was an attempt at a family intervention and that when she reached out for help from other Slipknot members, none was given. She stated that she never called 911 for help because she was afraid that child services would be informed about the needles in their home and take away their unborn child.
Corey Taylor Shawn Crahan may be called to the stand as potential witnesses.
