We are very sad to report that another highly admired horror icon has passed away yesterday. Gunnar Hansen, who played Leatherface in the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre, died Saturday at age 68 of pancreatic cancer at his home in Maine, according to his agent Mike Eisenstadt.
Hansen lived in Maine for about 40 years, where he was working as an actor and writer. Apparently, at the time of his death, he was developing a horror film titled Death House, which is story about the most horrific prison break in the history of mankind.
Eisenstadt said,
At the time of his death, Hansen was at work on a film called “Death House.” Hansen was a writer and producer of the film, which the Internet Movie Database says is about how a secret government facility becomes ground zero for the most horrific prison break in the history of mankind. The film is scheduled to come out next year.
There’s no doubt Hansen left a mark on the horror genre. So we hope fans will continue to appreciate his effort over the years by watching his work on screen and reading his most recent book Chain Saw Confidential, which gives readers a behind-the-scenes look at how Texas Chain Saw Massacre was made.
R.I.P. Leatherface!
