Over a year has passed since FOX announced plans to move forward with a new Predator sequel, which has Shane Black (Iron Man 3, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) sitting in the director’s chair and Fred Dekker (Ricochet, House) penning the sci-fi screenplay. Both are looking to bring back the same movie magic they had when they collaborated for The Monster Squad in 1987.
By the sound of recent progress these days, the upcoming Predator entry is indeed very much on track and the script is looking spectacular, according to producer John Davis (also co-produced the original Predator) via Collider.
Davis said,
Shane shot a movie and he’s doing a pilot now, but I’ve read a lot of his script and I think it’s genius. I think it’s genius and I think it’s entertaining, and what it did is recreate a famous franchise in a different, interesting way; looking at it from a different light.
Shane’s got a writing partner, Fred Dekker. They’ve been doing it together and Fred’s great. The two of them together, they’ve been in the business for a long time, but the writing is so fresh, the perspective is so fresh. I’m telling you you’re going to get something you don’t expect and you’re going to say, ‘This is the most entertaining way to reinvent a franchise.’
Fans of the Predator franchise should know that Shane Black previously played the wisecracking Rick Hawkins in the original film, so the new “inventive” sequel should be familiar territory for the director. Dekker is also known for writing and directing the cult classic, Night of the Creeps.
