Regardless of this report, we already knew this remake was coming, and I’m sure some of you, like Evil Argento, wish that the studios would just leave this one alone. Unfortunately, leaving this one alone won’t happen since MGM just announced a partnership deal with Fox 2000 Pictures, a division of Twentieth Century Fox, to co-finance and distribute a remake… well, in the recent press release they’re now calling it a “revisionist” take.
In a revisionist take on the classic horror film, a family struggling to make ends meet relocates to an outdated suburban home and is confronted by an angry spirit who kidnaps their youngest daughter and challenges them to band together to rescue her from the clutches of evil.
Gil Kenan (Monster House) is set to helm the film from a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize-winning writer, David Lindsay-Abaire. Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert are producing via Ghost House Pictures, along with Roy Lee (The Strangers).
Remakes are usually a hit or miss with fans, however, as with any horror classic I’ve enjoyed watching in the past, such as Poltergeist, I’m always hoping for a hit. Not all remakes suck because Evil Dead proved to be a great one in my opinion.
The Poltergeist remake is officially scheduled to begin production this Fall.
