Razor Candi Shares Words of Wisdom
What advice would you give someone wanting to follow in your footsteps?
Always stay true to your choices and feelings. There are a lot of people out there who will talk down about you or belittle your judgments to gain your attention or to prevent you from reaching your objective.
Be aware, intelligence and attitude will always exceed looks. Strive to be an individual and avoid belonging to a group or scene, this will only hinder your ability to think for yourself and will detach you from your goals or dreams.
Try to take any opportunity you can, don’t let ego get in the way of possible career breaks, but be cautious and do your research. Remember, everything takes time, practice, experience, and patience, most of all don’t give up!
Tell me a bit about your work designing; when did that start and what are your plans for 2014?
Maybe this question is a little misunderstood, but by designing I will assume you are talking about CandiWorld. It is a company established in the late summer/fall of 2012, and is the brainchild of several friends experienced in various fields ranging from fashion, photography, art, and modeling to business and logistics who are looking for a challenge in the underground fetish fashion scene. Currently the project has taken a seat to the side while I focus on creating new content and features for RazorCandi.com, however, I am hoping this year I will find time to collaborate more with the other members involved with the project and get it going again.
You are such an iconic and diverse model, how do you constantly come up with inspiration for new projects?
It’s hard to say exactly what sparks an idea because usually it’s not from one certain thing. I’ve been inspired by seeing an item in other fashion images and created a whole spin off of that. I’ve been inspired by cartoons/comic books, art, even landscapes.
Currently I depend a lot on supporters who purchase wishlist items for me and sponsors providing clothing items, makeup, jewelry, etc., so I draw inspiration from those items and center the whole theme around that. I really like challenging subjects and creating sensational imagery, but usually that all depends on the budget. Since I don’t go through any modeling agencies or anything like that, the vast majority of my sets are completely DIY.
Tell me about some of your publications/credits.
Some of my more noteworthy publications that come to mind instantly is the work I’ve done for Menton3. I’ve provided him with reference images which were used in some of his amazing paintings and most excitingly used for the main character Edith in his comic book series, The Memory Collectors.
I’ve also been lucky enough to make it onto several magazine covers over the years, which I find to be a really big compliment and testament to my work. I was also on last year’s flier for the Transylvania Tattoo Expo in Sibiu, Romania. It’s the first tattoo convention ever held in Romania and has been annually held for the past six years. I ended up on billboards and even went onto a TV show with the organizer to talk a bit about the convention.
Deathrock Girl of the World
What is the best place you have traveled to model?
I think Prague still holds the medal for being the best place I’ve traveled to for modeling. I was lucky enough to be invited out to shoot for Dracula Clothing. Not only is the city just so magical, but I was also fortunate enough to meet some really great people and make some friends while I was there!
Who’s on your short list (photographers, designers etc.) of people that you would like to work with?
I am dying to work with Kato, not only just to model her beautiful pieces but also to shoot together. I’ve also been a longtime admirer of Mother of London’s work. I think her designs are absolutely unique and breathtaking. I’m also looking forward to collaborating more in the near future with Mikhell Chernobyl, lead vocalist of Lazarus Blackstar and also clothing designer, he makes some nice dark work.
I have to admit I don’t really have a list of photographers to work with. I know in this business working with other photographers is almost a must, however, since I am currently focused on creating content for my site it’s most convenient for me to work as a team with my personal photographer. In the long run I do hope this will lead me across the world allowing me access to collaborations with other photographers, but right now I haven’t given that list much thought. That’s not to say that I’m not willing if the proposal works for me.
I know you model for Zivity, can you tell me about your views on the site and how you enjoy modeling for them?
I really love Zivity. The site has opened me up to so much and has done wonders in helping me expand my portfolio. I currently have 77 short sets published on Zivity, they are basically previews to full sets which can be attained through votes placed on the sets. You can view my profile at Zivity, but it is a subscription based site and you will have to join the site to see more.
It’s a very interesting concept, I’ve never seen any other site like it online, and though the community is a bit small, I’ve met so many wonderful members, models, and photographers on the site.
Razor Candi in the Years to Come
You recently published a beautiful calendar, how did that go for you? Did you design everything yourself? Will this be an annual thing?
Thank you! I did design the whole thing myself. The designing part was fun but I was a little unprepared when it came to sales as they sold so quickly. I grew a little overwhelmed with keeping up with signing, packaging, labeling, and shipping, which I also handled myself. The calendars will definitely be an annual thing, especially now that I will be better equipped and prepared when orders come in! In the meantime, I have a few ideas in mind for other merchandise that will be posted on RazorCandi.net this year.
Do you have any big plans for 2014?
My big plans for this year involves shooting lots of spankin’ new material for my site, getting new merchandise out, setting up a webcam room, and chat service so I can talk exclusively with my lovely RazorCandi.com members and lots of plans to travel Europe
Keep up with Razor Candi on Facebook and at razorcandi.com.
