It’s Friday and the weekend starts in a few hours for some us, and I’m looking forward to it. But can you handle something that might ruin the weekend for you? Then you might want turn away from this trailer for the remake of RoboCop because it pretty much sucks steel monkey balls. I already hit the play button, so my weekend is pretty much doomed.
At first, I thought director José Padilha was convincing on the new direction of the film, such as moving away from ultra-violence and focusing on the emotions of a man turning into a machine. I like those ideas. However, this looks completely tasteless and cheap. It sounds like RoboCop even lost his faith in the remake. No wonder this film had issues at the beginning of production, and I can already see why.
I hope another trailer will drop in in the future and convince me otherwise, but for now we’re all stuck with this. RoboCop is currently slated for release on February 7, 2014.
RoboCop Synopsis
In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years – and it’s meant billions for OmniCorp’s bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the homefront, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.
