During a recent UFC Fight Night pressers, Ronda Rousey told the media she would love to defend the UFC bantamweight strap at UFC 182 on January 3, 2014. At this moment, a dream 5-round title fight for Rousey inside the Octagon would be against former STRIKEFORCE champion Gina Carano or seasoned striker Cat Zingano.
I think the two fights I would like the most are either Gina Carano, or Cat Zingano, I know [Zingano is] recovering. I talked to her personally and I told her one day we are going to have a title fight that you deserve. I’m going to beat you, but you’re going to have it. She’s had a very, very rough year and it’s exactly what she need. I’d be happy to provide that experience for her.
Since both hold constraints because one of them is still negotiating a contract with the UFC and the other is injured, another potential fight for Rousey would be Bethe Correia, a Brazilian mixed martial artist who took out two of Rousey’s “Four Horsewomen” training partners in his past two fights. Rousey stated that she admires Correia’s tactics and would also love to fight her on her home turf in Brazil. In addition, Rousey is eyeing long-time rival Cris Cyborg, who makes her 135-pound debut in Invicta FC later this year.
Besides ONLY talking about an upcoming title fight, Rousey revealed that she’s a fan of the 20th season of The Ultimate Fighter, a season that will crown a champion for the first time in the history of the reality TV show. According to Rousey, she believes Rose Namajunas has potential to be a superstar just like her out of all 16 women fighters this season.
I definitely think its Rose Namajunas. I called it from the very beginning. As soon as I saw her, I saw this girl is special, I’ve been following her for two years. I only finally got to meet her. I’ve been stalking her on Instagram for year. It was so great to be able to meet her, and I wish her all the luck. I can’t wait to see how she does in the season.
She’s got an amazing skill set, she’s an exciting fighter. She takes risks, she’s gorgeous, and she’s charismatic, I really think she has all the tools that are needed in order to be the next really influential champion.
A fight for Rousey isn’t set in stone yet, but we’ll confirm as soon the official UFC word is out.
