It doesn’t sound like MMA superstar Ronda Rousey will be defending the bantamweight title at UFC 195 after all. UFC President Dana White confirmed Rousey’s sixth straight title defense in the UFC will take place at UFC 193 in Australia at the Etihad Stadium rather than in Brazil. A venue which could hold up to 70,000 attendees.
White said,
Ronda Rousey was huge for us in Brazil, she was well received there and it was just a phenomenal event. It did very well on Pay-Per-View here in the United States, and she’s obviously a huge superstar for us. Australia’s an important market for us, so we’re gonna bring her out there in our first real big stadium show, and we know she’ll break the record out there.
Rousey was initially scheduled to face Miesha Tate for a trilogy fight, but that was immediately changed last week. Kickboxer veteran Holly Holm is the next challenger and she is expected to step inside the Octagon in the main event of UFC 193. Robbie Lawler vs. Carlos Condit was originally booked as the headliner, but due to Lawler’s recent thumb injury, the welterweight title fight has been cancelled.
There’s talk that Tate may face Brazil’s Amanda Nunes at UFC 195.
