Nearly one year ago, we reported that the Ghost in the Shell live-action movie is moving forward with director Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) off a script penned by William Wheeler (The Reluctant Fundamentalist). Now we’re extremely thrilled to report that DreamWorks has selected Scarlett Johansson (Lucy, The Avengers) to star as Major Motoko Kusanagi in Ghost in the Shell, the leader of a counter-cyberterrorist organization called Public Security Section 9.

After years of effort to turn the 1995 anime of the same name into a live-action movie, it appears that DreamWorks will finally get the production rolling this year, now that Johansson is unofficially secured to play in the movie. Since Ghost in the Shell is still in early stages of development, we’ll be sure to keep Yellers updated in the future once more news comes our way. So, stay tuned to Yell! Magazine.
