Looking back in our archives on Yell! Magazine, we honestly thought the multi-talented Rob Zombie was going to be attached to another remake of The Blob. Yes, a second remake to the 1958 sci-fi classic, which starred Steve McQueen that also spawned a 1972 sequel titled Beware! The Blob. But after time, our defunct writer Mr. Rod Harshcore proved to be completely wrong.
4 years after our fallacious post, we can confirm that Zombie is out of the picture for The Blob remake and director Simon West (The Expendables 2, Con Air) is in. According to a press release from Goldcrest Films, a British film production company announced that West officially on board to direct with principal photography set to begin this summer, which tells us the modern remake of The Blob is really moving forward. So no bullshit this time!
In the presser, West confirmed he plans to use CGI to its fullest to bring The Blob back to life like never-before-seen.
With modern CGI we can now fully realize the potential of The Blob, said West. The world I create will be totally believable, immersive and emotionally satisfying. It’s a thrill to introduce an enduring icon to a wider audience and a whole new era of fans.
Jack Harris, the producer of the 1958 original will be producing again alongside Richard Saperstein (Se7en, The Mist) and Brian Witten (Final Destination, 2009’s Friday the 13th).
