Spotlights Debut “Learn To Breathe” Video And Announce Co-Headlining Tour

Spotlights, the Brooklyn-based trio, have released the new video for “Learn to Breathe,” and it is one monster of a track. I don’t like that it’s being promoted as “post-metal” because, what the fuck is that? What it is is sludgy and doomy and really good. While the low end is thick and heavy with a bass guitar that sounds like a sledgehammer, there’s an interesting and persistent high-end synth sound that, while unusual sounds fantastic.

The stark black and white live clip was directed by Ryan Sutherby, producer and cinematographer of the Melvins’ documentary, The Colossus of Destiny: A Melvins Tale.

Spotlights recently released a five-track EP, titled Hanging by Faith. The EP includes a stirring rendition of The Cure’s “Faith” as well as the cinematic song, “The Hanging (Hang Us All).”

About Spotlights:

Spotlights is a Brooklyn-based trio featuring married couple Mario and Sarah Quintero alongside drummer Chris Enriquez. The band released Seismic in the fall of 2017 via Ipecac Recordings. Revolver said the outfit “balances delicate atmospherics” and “crushing sounds” on the Aaron Harris (ISIS/Palms) produced release, while Loudwire noted Spotlights’ knack for “letting songs breathe, taking their time in building up a track’s strength and beauty simultaneously.” Treble Zinenamed the album one of the Top 20 metal releases of 2017, saying “Seismic is an atmospheric sludge odyssey that lives up to the earth-moving implications of its title.”
