If you can read my Yoda-nese, then you understand that J.J. Abrams will not be directing Star Wars: Episode VII.

In an Empire magazine interview, Abrams revealed that he’s too big of a fan to take on the monumental task of working on the franchise. As well, he told that he wasn’t a big fan of Star Trek before taking on the job, which made it easier for him.

“There were the very early conversations, and I quickly said that, because of my loyalty to Star Trek and also just being a fan, I wouldn’t even want to be involved in the next version of those things. I declined any involvement very early on. I’d rather be in the audience not knowing what was coming, rather than being involved in the minutiae of making them.”

It’s hard to believe that anyone would accept to take on this project, which could either be career suicide or a major catalyst for one’s professional life. It could also be a one-hit wonder. Yet, writers have been found.

Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3, Little Miss Sunshine, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Oblivion) will pen the story while Lawrence Kasdan (who wrote The Empire Strikes Back) and Simon Kinberg (X-Men: The Last Stand, Jumper, Sherlock Holmes) will write new installments.

It’s also been rumored that Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill will be a part of the cast.

Let us know what you think: Did J.J. Abrams make the right choice? Is it even a good idea to start on new episodes?
