The press around Abstracter‘s new single, “Cruciform,” names the track the soundtrack to the apocalypse, and we have to agree. The 10-minute epic track builds on a slow, heavy doom foundation before breaking into a dark black metal conclusion, and it’s all somehow soothing and comforting. It’s perfect for Sunday morning.

The track comes forth from the wrathful Wound Empire, which boasts the band’s most demoralizing elements to date with its 4 massive movements consuming 42 minutes. Recorded and mixed at Earhammer Studios in Oakland, California, by Greg Wilkinson (Brainoil, Pallbearer, Noothgrush, etc.) and mastered at Audiosiege Mastering studios in Portland, Oregon, by Brad Boatright (Wolves In The Throne Room, Nails, Sunn O))), Sleep, etc.), Wound Empire‘s cover art and layout was handled by the band’s friend Kevin Gan Yuen of Sutekh Hexen.
Abstracter has confirmed a hometown record release show for Wound Empire, set to take place on March 7th, at First Church Of The Buzzard in Oakland. The band will be joined by Dispirit, Alaric, and Church. Additional sporadic live actions will be declared in the coming weeks.
