Cormier awaits his replacement for the main event
An undisclosed injury has forced Frank Mir (16-6 MMA) out of his fight against undefeated Daniel Cormier (10-0), which was supposed to take place at “Strikeforce: Cormier vs. Mir” on October 3, at Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This was going to be the first time an active UFC fighter crosses over to Strikeforce (owned by mutual parent company Zuffa) to face one of its competitors. It is rumored that Mir has a knee injury.
Since the announcement, many fighters have had their names thrown into the mix and some have gone as far as expressing their interest to fight as a replacement in the main event. Former Strikeforce fighter Fabricio Werdum (16-5-1 MMA) and former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andre Arlovski (17-9 MMA) have offered their services should they be wanted and both Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva (16-4 MMA) and Josh Barnett (31-6 MMA) could step up to the plate for potential rematches with Cormier. Cormier has defeated both Barnett and Silva in Strikeforce.
