You know those songs that, from the very first note, cause you to come to an arresting halt, stopping you in your tracks, forcing you to take an unscheduled detour into daydream land? That’s exactly my impression of the latest track, “Fuse,” from Chicago’s “progressive post-metal doom” (not my words) band Taken by the Sun. Head on over to Cvlt Nation to stream the track.
The band issued a comment on the track:
In contrast to our prior pre-release track [‘Ornaflux’], which showcased our capability for frenetic, atonal prog showmanship, ‘Fuse’ is a sprawling display of drama and melody. At once crushing and serene, the song shifts from soundscape to soundscape while held together by a few key themes and tones.
“Fuse” comes from Taken by the Sun’s self-titled, eight-track debut, which gets released next week on February 24th. Pre-orders can be made here.
Taken by the Sun will bring their sound collages to the stage for a special record release show in May, playing the album in its entirety. Further live excursions are in the plotting stages. Stand by.
