There’s a new clip from Rob Zombie’s The Lords of Salem, and it looks terrifying. For me, it seems to bring nostalgia (i.e., The Gate) into the present as it plays into everything I love about ’80s horror movies that dealt with the occult in terms of music and records being played backwards.
I love how Rob Zombie describes his influence for this film over at Entertainment Weekly, where the new clip is showing:
“Well, I’m from Massachusetts… When we were kids they would take us to reenactments of the Salem witch trials as, like, class trips.”
Zombie also gives a short synopsis of the film:
“My premise is that there was another group of women put to death [during the witch trials] who actually were witches. They vowed to come back and wreak vengeance upon Salem and they do it through this bizarre piece of music. Heidi has some lineage to the witch trials — but she’s also a recovering drug addict. So, in the course of the film, you’re not sure if she’s back on drugs, if she’s losing her mind, or if these events are actually happening to her.”
I know The Lords of Salem is going to suck, because right now I think it’s going to be epic and scare the living shit out of me.
