UFC 226: Daniel Cormier Claims Heavyweight Title, Sets Up Fight With Brock Lesnar

Daniel Cormier

Daniel Cormier did it again On Saturday night! Except this time, he dethroned the 265-pound king in a single round. It was an electrifying moment, which will most likely be remembered as a historical main event in mixed martial arts.

At UFC 226, DC went up a division for a superfight with the previous reigning UFC heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic. The Cleveland native fell short and was knocked out quickly at the 4:33 mark of the opening round. Besides claiming the heavyweight belt, DC also became one of two fighters to hold two UFC championships simultaneously.

During the UFC 226 post-fight presser DC said,

I was a heavyweight for a long time and I left the division, I never knew what I could become, but tonight I got the answer. I’m a two-division champion, baby!

This fight earned him the Performance of the Fight award. After his victory, Cormier provoked Brock Lesnar, who emerged from the audience and came into the octagon to accept the challenge by the new UFC Heavyweight Champion.

Cormier vs. Lesnar will potentially take place later this year. So stay tuned for the update!
