With a one-sided win over Dustin Poirier in September, many folks speculated that Irish mixed martial artist, Conor McGregor, will go straight into a title shot and face the winner of Aldo vs. Mendes 2, which take place tonight in Brazil. But it’s not really the situation anymore since the UFC has a different plan for the Irishman.
Surprisingly, the UFC made it official on Friday when they announced that McGregor will now face Germany’s Dennis Siver in a five-round featherweight main event in Boston on January 18, 2015. A fighter who previously failed a UFC 168 drug test in December for high levels of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG).
At a recent presser in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, McGregor expressed his opinion on Siver and told reporters he is going to punish him for using illegal substances.
I’m going to go in there and I’m going to rip his head off, I’m going to punish him for it.
Although, Siver has been out for months, McGregor also made it clear he won’t overlook the German or anyone else in the division.
Every fighter poses a threat, I will not overlook any man. He has cheated in the past, that’s another thing I will use to get in and put him out a bit more. He was caught with the stuff that hides it. That’s how deep he was in that. How deep was he in that game that he was actually using stuff to hide it from the testing. That, to me, I don’t respect that in a bit.
UFC Fight Night: McGregor vs. Siver will air LIVE on FOX Sports 1.
