UFC President Dana White Says Bisping vs. Romero Makes Sense

Michael Bisping

Following an extremely successful win on Saturday night in New York City, Yoel Romero could be getting the next middleweight title shot against Michael Bisping in 2017.

Romero faced Chris Weidman at UFC 205, defeating the former UFC middleweight champion early in the third round with a devastating flying knee, which sent Weidman down and allowing the Cuban fighter to land a few extra punches. The eight straight win for Romero apparently sealed him the deal for the next shot at the title, according to UFC President Dana White.

In the UFC 205 post-fight press conference White said,

That’s the fight that makes sense, I mean, he [Romero] beat Chris Weidman tonight. I don’t know when, but yeah, that’s the fight.

As for Bisping, the champion clearly expressed interest in defending the belt against Weidman before UFC 205, but said that he wouldn’t fight Romero even if he came out vitorious. Obviously, Romero responded in a UFC 205 pre-fight interview saying that it’s not up to Bisping whether he fights for the middleweight title.

At the moment, UFC officials have not yet announced who is next in line for that title shot, but stay tuned to Yell! Magazine for the update.
