UFC featherweight champion Cris Cyborg has had a rocky relationship with the UFC over the past few years, but things have changed a bit since she defeated Tonya Evinger at UFC 214 to capture the vacant title, previously held by Germaine de Randamie.
In fact, the UFC is now trying to honor Cyborg’s latest request to defend her belt against former bantamweight champion Holly Holm. Not far long ago, Cyborg called out Holm via Twitter, asking to fight the American at UFC 219, which is still currently in the works. However, the Brazilian canceled a meeting last week with the UFC to discuss a deal for the holm title fight because the promotion apparently wants to pay her less than her last fight with Evinger.
But it sounds like the UFC is working hard to rectify the deal pretty soon. Longtime UFC President Dana White mentioned at the UFC 216 post-fight press conference on Saturday night that they will “get it done” soon.
White said,
Yeah, yeah, I think we’ll get it done. It’s not done yet. I can never predict what’s gonna happen, but I think we’ll get it done. Soon.
If the UFC secures the title fight in the upcoming weeks, Cyborg vs. Holm could potentially be official for UFC 219. So stay tuned to Yell! Magazine for the update.
