Not really. It’s still a go, and is currently being filmed. The title, however, is what’s been canceled, which marks the third change. Formerly called Dracula: Year Zero, then just Dracula, the film is now going for ultra-original skewing of “Origins” with “Untold” — Dracula Untold.
The Universal Pictures film is being directed by Gary Shore, who will be making his feature-length debut with this film. Dracula Untold will combine vampire mythology with the true history of Prince Vlad to tell the origins of Dracula. The film is slated for a summer/fall 2014 release.
Personally, I like the first title, Dracula: Year Zero, best. Untold, for me, doesn’t make much sense since we had Francis Ford Coppola’s interpretation of Dracula’s origins in 1992’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Remember? Vlad, upon the death of his beloved Elisabeta, makes some oath to be evil forever… or something like that. Anyway, that part wasn’t in the book.
