Graphically, there’s no doubt Wolfenstein: The New Order looks stunning! Can’t you tell from the in-game screenshots above? Hence a possible reason why New Order has been delayed till 2014.
In our previous report, Bethesda Softworks revealed that it doesn’t want just another shooter, saying it has plans in the works to go beyond and make all 16 hours of the game “excellent.” Bethesda specifically referred to driving elements like story, narrative, and stealth sections. Bethesda also said that next-gen development has an impact, which now sounds like New Order wasn’t initially meant to be made for consoles likes the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
According to an exclusive interview with Examiner, Machine Games Creative director Jens Matthies said:
“It started out as a current-gen game, but we’ve been through the switch before with the Xbox to the Xbox 360. It’s basically the same experience, where you find out the new things you can do with these systems.”
“The simple architecture is one component of an easier transition, but it’s also that Microsoft and Sony have learned a lot over the years, which makes developing for these consoles better and the tools we have better.”
In addition, Matthies said there are plenty of games like Wolfenstein: The New Order coming out for next-gen consoles, and not all of them were initially developed for that and are now shipped. So it definitely makes you wonder if the first games for new consoles will really be a leap forward.
