For some, summer means happy sing-along jams that usually fall into hair metal territory (think “Unskinny Bop,” “Summer Nights,” and possibly “Sticky Sweet”). It also might mean following said hair metal bands, or at least checking them out, on their last attempt at recapturing their youth during some summer fest in some town or county nobody’s heard of.
For us here at Yell! Magazine, however, we prefer the darker side of summer heat… the side that leads to serial killing and sweat-inducing one-night stands of rough sex… oh, and we prefer heavy metal too. That’s why we’re excited to see this doom metal duo hitting the streets to perform and support their respective latest.
The summer is doomed! Two of the doom metal’s finest have announced a massive North American tour as Profound Lore labelmates YOB and Dark Castle team up on what is sure to be one of the most anticipated bills of the summer. Dates for the trek begin on July 1st in Seattle, Washington, and will run through August 7th when the summer skies of California will darken and two of the most lauded bands in the genre take over the Arcata to close out the tour.
Both YOB and Dark Castle are supporting new Profound Lore albums with this tour: Dark Castle recently released their highly anticipated Surrender to All Life Beyond Form on May 31st. The follow-up to their debut album, Spirited Migration, features guest appearances by Blake Judd of Natchtmystium, Sanford Parker (Minsk, Nachtmystium, Twilight), Nate Hall of US Christmas, and their tour mate on this upcoming trek, Mike Scheidt of YOB.
Dark Castle – Awake in Sleep
YOB will headline the tour and will be on the road to support the release of their follow-up to 2009′s The Great Cessation. Currently, the band is putting the finishing touches on ATMA, which will be released on August 16th through Profound Lore. Already at the top of several “Most Anticipated of 2011” lists, this tour will give fans their first opportunity to hear music from ATMA in the form of YOB’s extremely impressive and electrifying stage show. More details regarding YOB’s ATMA will be unveiled soon, so stay tuned to Yell! Magazine for further updates.
