The Japanese horror inspired first-person shooter F.E.A.R. is shortly coming out with a third installment of the series in March 2011. F.E.A.R. 3 also stylized as F.3.A.R. was originally scheduled to be released in 2010. Fans of the first two series including the expansion packs will now get a chance to play the single player campaign with a friend in co-op mode.

The original basic controls of Point Man “the protagonist” will be exactly the same as usual. Point, shoot and lob a grenade precisely using bullet time has always been an exciting aspect in F.E.A.R. not to forget various other creative techniques gamers have discovered. Another evolution to the game play will be a cover system that should have been introduced before. Although, it isn’t anything revolutionary these days. Other series like Rainbow 6: Vegas and another favorite exclusively owned by Microsoft, Gears of War have pulled off the cover system extremely well. If carefully crafted, the multi-player experience could very well gain in entertainment points too.

If Point Man isn’t the character you want to control. You will have the option to use “the antagonist” Paxton Fettel, respectively introduced in the first game. If shooting really isn’t your thing, you can use Fettel’s powers like telekinesis, stun, possession, and other abilities to attack your enemy.

F.E.A.R. 3 - Alma

The last thing we can’t forget to mention which has been F.E.A.R.‘s main source of horror and terror is Alma, the ghostly little girl that was originally envisioned by Craig Hubbard. Apparently, inspired by Yūrei (Japanese folklore figures, analogous to Western legends of ghosts) and not so much by any horror movie characters like Samarah from The Ring.

The new story will be written by Steve Niles a comic book author and novelist known for 30 Days of Night and Criminal Macabre. Legendary and master of horror John Carpenter will also be on board in guiding the cinematics in F.E.A.R. 3.

Are you convinced F.E.A.R. 3 will be a hit based on these facts or just another flop like Medal of Honor? Let us know!
