Multiple reports have surfaced indicating that UFC 129 has found its headliners. It hasn’t been a secret that the UFC brass was interested in putting together a stacked card for their first foray into Ontario, Canada. Apparently, the UFC has done just that by putting Canada’s MMA golden child Georges St-Pierre in the main event of UFC 129 up against Jake Shields. Also very near to being finalized for the card is a Light Heavyweight bout between UFC Hall of Famer and former champion Randy Couture up against former light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida.
With Cain Velasquez being out for 8 months with a shoulder injury (rumoured to originally be the headliner for UFC 129) the UFC didn’t have many other options to bring a championship fight to Toronto, Ontario (Frankie Edgar has just fought Gray Maynard, Anderson Silva is fighting at UFC 126, Jose Aldo is injured and Shogun has recently begun training after a knee surgery that kept him out of action for an extended period of time).
With this kind of line-up in the works for UFC 129, it is sure to be a very entertaining card, making the fans in Canada very, very happy. The rest of the card has yet to be finalized but expect some more match-ups to be made that are sure to bring the fireworks.
