Brock Lesnar has agreed to fight number one contender Junior Dos Santos after they coach season 13 of the Ultimate Fighter. Lesnar was always favourite to be one of the coaches but Dos Santos’ inclusion has been a recent revelation.
Before he was signed to fight Roy Nelson, Frank Mir was seemingly favourite to coach opposite Lesnar on the reality show. With both fighters having won one fight each, the completion of their rubber match was looking likely. However that fight was not liked by the fans and typically Dana White scrapped it.
The Dos Santos possibility has only came about recently after the unfortunate rotator cuff injury suffered by heavyweight champ Cain Velasauez. Dos Santos had won a shot at the belt after an impressive run of six victories inside the ocatgon. “Cigano” has wins over top ranked fighters such as: Fabricio Werdum, Stefan Struve, Mirko Cro Cop and Roy Nelson.
This will be Brock’s first fight back since losing the title to Velasquez in what was a brutal stoppage loss. Many had rumoured that, after that loss and the beating he took from Carwin in the fight previous to that, Lesnar was looking for a way out of MMA and a return to the WWE was on the cards. Dana White has refuted such talk.
“None of that was true,” White said. “Obviously, I was in communication with Brock and his team, and talking to them the whole time… There was no wheeling and dealing about the WWE. I think everybody knows how I feel about that. He’s under contract with me.”
Although, while everything is looking rosy at the moment, apparently Lesnar was not the easiest to deal with in regards to agreeing the fight. Apprehension perhaps?
“In dealing with Brock, one minute, he can be into something, and the next minute, he can completely be not into something,” White explained. “I’m already prepared for this, mentally, and it’s gonna be a tough season. I know it is.”
