If the sequel to Piranha 3D is as good as the original, every fan is in store for some outrageously gory fun. The film moves from the escapades at Lake Victoria to center around a newly opened water park where the blood thirsty fish have taken up residence.
Unfortunately original director Alexandre Aja and writers Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg do not return for the sequel. The three captured lightening in a bottle so the sequel may suffer. Babes in bikinis showing off their wares during the town’s spring break festivities does not seem to be the sequel’s main raison d’etre; which for this fan was what made the original such fun to watch.
Hopefully the water park includes a second set of party babes willing to remove their clothing and imitate a Wet ‘n Wild video before getting munched on by our friendly neighborhood fish. If not, Piranha 3DD, will have to rely more on its humorous elements. The addition of Gary Busey and David Hasselhoff to the cast indicates this may be the direction its heading.
The film is directed by John Gulager (Feast I, II, III) and stars among others Ving Rhames, Christopher Lloyd, and Paul Scheer. Piranha 3DD hits theaters November 23rd.
