Square Enix Montreal To Develop The Next Hitman Game

Hitman: Absolution finally hit store shelves a few days ago, and the reception is fairly positive going as far to call it the strongest entry in the series to date. There are also some reviews for Absolution that is not in favor of the game, saying “IO Interactive needs to restart from the Blood Money checkpoint and try again – they screwed up this run spectacularly”, stated by the guru’s over at GamesArena. With the reviews going in both direction, the question that’s flocking in my head is IO Interactive feeling the need for a fresh perspective on the big franchise?

Based on a report by GameSpot, it sounds like IO Interactive is looking for a fresh start since they have confirmed that Square Enix Montreal will be developing the next outing, said Absolution director Tore Blystad.

“We’ve been talking about these similarities to some of the big movie franchises, like Aliens, where everyone’s doing it their own way. Every time someone gets their hands on a franchise, they do something different.”

With this confirmation by Blystad for the next installment, it marks the first time in the history of the Hitman franchise to not be developed in-house, but IO promises to still keep all eyes on the future project.
