Top 10: Heavy Metal Christmas Songs

No.5 “Get Into The Spirit” – Rob Halford

If you have a hard time digesting grandma’s festive cooking or being with family for extended periods, we have a painkiller for you. Rob Halford delivers his classic metal sound with festive theme. “Get Into the Spirit” is off his album Winter Songs.

No.4 “Merry Christmas (I Don’t Want To Fight Tonight)” – The Ramones

We all know that Christmas is a stressful time, and the reality is that couples and families fight at this time of year. We’ve spent too much, we’ve eaten too much, we’ve drunk too much, etc. Thank god The Ramones didn’t forget this and brought everyone back to reality with this track.

No.3 “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” – Dez Fafara

Devildriver’s Dez Fafara is joined by Blasko (bass), Doug Aldrich (guitar), and John Tempesta (drums) on this classic. As Heavy Metal is often about the rejected, “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” is thematically aligned with what metal stands for. Plus he gets his comeuppance. Rudolph should get some metal horns.

No.2 “Oh Come All Ye Faithful” – Twisted Sister

This Heavy Metal Christmas song comes off Twisted Sister’s album A Twisted Christmas. As with much of Twisted Sister’s videos, this one is epic and has a great story behind it. The track itself perfectly blends the classic Christmas song with TS’ own “We’re Not Gonna Take It.”

No.1 “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” – Dokken

Today, they’re best known for having a track in a movie about another man with a penchant for children, Dokken and A Nightmare on Elm Street: Dream Warriors are synonymous. But the metal icons of the ‘80s put out a straight-up Heavy Metal Christmas song, and the great thing is that without the benefit of the intro or the lyrics, this is a classic metal song and you’d never know the difference.
