There was some news circulating some time ago that a third installment in the Batman: Arkham franchise was in development. We reported it, and it’s been further confirmed that Rocksteady isn’t a part of this one; Warner Brothers Games Montreal is helming Batman: Arkham Origins.
Before you get your panties in a bunch and throw your remote across the room, Batman: Arkham Origins is not an origins story. While it is a prequel, it will focus on Batman’s first encounters with various villains. Batman will also have to contend with eight deadly assassins who have come to Gotham to destroy him. Yes, Batman: Arkham Origins will take place in Gotham City – also, during the Christmas Season.
Also, to calm any fears avid fans might have, WB Montreal has access to the Unreal engine that Rocksteady used in the first to installments.
Expect to see Batman: Arkham Origins on store shelves on October 25, 2013. The game will be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC, and Wii U.
While Batman: Arkham Origins won’t be available on handheld devices, these platforms are getting Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, to be released on the same day as the console game. It will tell a different story taking place after the events of Arkham Origins.
