UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon “Bones” Jones was pretty clear on Saturday night that he wants another title defense with Swedish mixed martial artist Alexander Gustafsson to break Tito Ortiz’s longstanding record in the division, and to prove to critics that he can beat an opponent as big as he is.

Gustafsson had a chance to speak up about the situation on Monday with Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour, and said he wants the title shot.

“I want to fight Jones. I want to fight for the title, that’s what I want to do,” Gustafsson said.

However, if Jones happens to take a long break to fully heal from the injury he suffered at UFC 159, Gustafsson also said that he would go toe-to-toe with former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida for a No. 1 contender’s fight.

“I’m not going to wait,” Gustafsson said. “I’m not going to wait for a long time. I fought ‘Shogun’ in December. I want to fight soon. I want to fight in a couple of months at least, I want to fight soon. If Jones can’t fight, which I would understand because [his injury] looked very nasty, I’d fight Machida, too. If Jones can fight in few months, I would love to fight him.”

Sounds like “The Mauler” is definitely thinking ahead of the game and is in favor of both fights, including a match up with Gegard Mousasi, if that fight gets him a shot at the title, afterwards of course.
