If Jones vs. Gustafsson is a fight you’re hoping for this year, then we have an update for you that reveals it could happen sooner than later, according to Gustafsson (15-1 MMA, 7-1 UFC) .
So far, we know both light heavyweights have been talking trash over Twitter, and are lobbying the fight for some time now. They even had a small face off in Russia the other day. On Friday, Gustafsson told MMA Fighting that he thinks it will happen soon.
“He wants to fight me, and I want to fight him,” Gustafsson said. “[The UFC hasn’t] offered me the fight yet. I’m just really hoping to get some answers soon.
“I’m really hoping for it, and I think I will get the fight. I think I will be offered a title fight very soon. Nothing is set or signed, though.”
The question now is, when and where? UFC President Dana White also said the fight could very well happen, but since Jones suffered a toe injury last month. Nothing can go official yet. However, Jones this week said via Twitter that he was considering to start training again in three weeks, or recover more.

Although, Jones hasn’t confirmed what he will do next, this is still a positive indications for a possible match up between the two in the very near future. If Jones requires more time to recover, Gustafsson may need to take on former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Lyoto Machida to solidify himself as the number one contender in the division.
