It looks reminiscent of Leatherface and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but I have a feeling that Perseveration will be something completely different while being just as shocking. There might also be a little influence from Kevin Smith’s Red State. Either way, the poster is haunting, and the trailer is highly disturbing, more so with the black and white footage and the soft music that should soften the atmosphere, but only heightens the horror.
There’s no official release date, but reports indicate sometime in October 2013.
Perseveration, defined as “the tendency to continue or repeat an act or activity after the cessation of the original stimulus,” comes from the mind of newcomer writer/director Adam Sotelo. The film also stars a cast of unknowns, including Ariana Adili, Peter Beck, and Madeline Caleskie.
Official Perseveration synopsis:
A young boy(Joshua)’s journey into survival after being born into a inbred religious cult quickly turns sour. Locked in a cage, starved, and beaten his whole life he witnesses a murder in the church where he has been held captive. Being taught a skewed religion and being held captive takes a tole on his mentality as he grows into a monster. Acting out on his disgusting, depraved and violent urges toward the “non-believers” as he was brought up in the quiet abandoned town in Hancock, New York, where the inbred cult family lived. With a face hidden from society for so long, a tortured soul, and a skewed belief, he roams the streets looking for the next sinner to cross his path. So… we ask you…
What would you do if your religion was defiled?
