Before Daniel Cormier drops down to the light heavyweight division in the UFC, he wants to settle one last friendly beef with TUF Season 10 winner Roy Nelson in heavyweight. The hunt for “Big Country” partially got started last week when Cormier drafted in pencil a fake UFC contract, and dropped it on Nelson’s door step via Twitter. Followed by a clear message “I’m in!!!” Fortunately, no lawyers were involved in that fake fight agreement, but things are now officially taking shape.

According to an announcement made on Monday night, Cormier and Nelson are stepping into the Octagon as co-main event for UFC 166, to be held on October 19, 2013, at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas.

Cormier expressed his excitement in a recent interview with the Houston Chronicle:

“I’m pretty excited about it. It’s the fight that we’ve wanted for a little bit, and Roy’s wanted. I think it’s going to be a great fight. He’s a guy that brings the fight every time. He’s an exciting fighter. I’m happy to be in there with him. I’ve said multiple times that I don’t hold the Stipe Miocic fight against him, being as he took the fight on such short notice. I kind of give him a mulligan. So, in my eyes he’s still on that win streak he was on. He’s a very dangerous guy.

It’s no secret as to what he does. He’s a great grappler. He’s got big knockout power. And he’s a tough athlete. I think people mistake, they do the eye test on Roy and it gives them a false sense of what they’re stepping in the Octagon with. That’s not gonna happen with me.”

Additionally, Cormier also said that if he defeats Nelson at UFC 166, he plans to ask for an immediate match up with UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon “Bones” Jones.

Let’s hope for Cormier that Jones doesn’t move up to heavyweight after his fight with Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 165.
