The Walking Dead Season 3: Rick Hallucinates Deleted Scene

The Walking Dead: The Complete Third Season comes to Blu-ray and DVD on August 27th. Now, these deleted scenes have been trickling out as part of the promo machine behind the release, but other than that The Walking Dead landscape has been bare. I’m guessing that the release of the The Complete Third Season will act as the kickstarter for the promo behind Season 4, which gets underway on October 13th.

The deleted scene here shows Rick hallucinating an encounter with his deceased wife, Lori, which we actually saw in the “Home” episode. What was deleted was the zombified Lori that Rick sees. In a way, it reminded me a lot of the scene in The Shining where Jack Nicholson ends up kissing the ghost corpse. While you could argue that this scene should have been kept in, because it’s awesome, and I agree on that — in the moment of the scene. Many fans will point to the less-than-perfect CG versus the stellar Nicotero effects as the reason for the “Rick Hallucinates” scene being deleted, but it more than likely has to do with the long-term effect of keeping such a scene in. What I mean is that if they showed us this portion of the hallucination, Rick would be too far gone to believably come back to center. It’s pretty much that simple; Rick would be too far down crazy lane to come home.

Enjoy the clip and let us know if you think the scene should have been left in.
