We previously said that Spike Lee’s American version of Oldboy isn’t winning us over yet with the first trailer, including the poster release. It doesn’t have anything to do with award-winning director Spike Lee at all, since we like most of his work like Crooklyn, Clockers, Summer of Sam, and even one of his latest dramas, Inside Man. The Korean version of Oldboy, directed by Chan-wook Park, is so good, and it’s already considered by many to be a masterpiece, and I just don’t see Lee’s version winning anyone over. Especially fans who have seen the original starring Min-sik Choi as Oh Dae-su. It was the craziest film of 2003, and it still remains the best revenge film of all time, in my opinion.
Although, we continue to cover Lee’s version of Oldboy, we still don’t feel any photos will do the original any justice, even if Josh Brolin is playing significant role in the film. However, if you haven’t seen Park’s version, then everything changes for you, and it could be the greatest film of 2013.
For now, I just can’t help but dislike the American remake. Oldboy is currently slated for release on November 27, 2013.
