by When one thinks of Doom Metal, Japan doesn’t usually come to mind. More often than not we tend to think of England or the U.S. However, that hasn’t stopped Japan’s Church of Misery from making some of the best Doom Metal of the 21st century.
Newly reunited with original vocalist Hideki Fukasawa, Church of Misery has hit hard with their latest album, The Kingdom Scum, which has garnered great praise from the industry. Check out the live performance video of the band’s video for “Brother Bishop,” above, and you’ll see why they’re an industry favorite right now. There’s an undeniable groove in the fuzzed-out guitars that just makes you want to get up and move… or sit and “smoke.”
Doom grooves, great sound, and a catalog that’s largely about serial killers… what’s not to like from Church of Misery’s Tatsu Mikami, Junji Narita, Ikume Kawabe, and Hideki Fukasawa? If you missed them on their first run through the U.S. in 2012, you’re in luck; Church of Misery will be returning a month-long stretch starting in October.
