Gil Kenan is set to helm the upcoming “revisionist” reboot of the horror classic, Poltergeist, which is a paranormal story that follows the Bowen family and the struggles to take back their kidnaped daughter from the evil spirits that inhabit their new suburban home.
The story sounds practically identical to the classic, except the 1982 version produced by Steven Spielberg and directed by Tobe Hooper revolved around the members of the Freeling family. That’s the only difference I see based on all the details released so far. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the scenes are shot differently and the story is slightly twisted from the original since I expect it to be a modern take like Insidious. Plus, Sam Raimi is producing it this time and if you saw the differences in the remake of Evil Dead, then you already know where Poltergeist could be heading.
The reboot stars Sam Rockwell and Rosemarie DeWitt as the Bowen parents. As we’ve previously reported, Saxon Sharbino, Kennedi Clements, and Kyle Catlett will play the children. Clements is expected to play a similar role to Carol Anne and we just discovered that Jane Adams will play the parapsychologist who will help her escape from the evil spirits.
Poltergeist started filming on September 23rd in Toronto, Canada.
