Bellator 106: Rampage vs. Ortiz – New Bout Added To Prelim Card

Tito Ortiz

The promos for Bellator’s first ever pay-per-view (PPV) event look epic. The trailer actually looks like it’s made for an upcoming Godzilla film, but instead it features two former UFC Light Heavyweight Champions, Tito Ortiz (16-11-1) and Rampage Jackson (32-11). That’s the main fight on the card that Bellator hopes will help draw more attention to the brand, and help shed the spotlight on other fighters like Michael Chandler, Eddie Alvarez, and Pat Curran, just to name a few.

Unfortunately, tickets aren’t selling quickly. According to a tweet made by a reporter for MMA Junkie, Bellator has only sold approximately 1,700 tickets so far, with another 2,000 on consignment for a venue that can hold over 13,000 people. That’s how bad the situation is, and the organization has less than 20 days left to sell them off. What can Bellator possibly do next to keep this PPV from complete failure?

At this point, even adding a new featherweight bout to the preliminary card won’t make a difference. Bellator just announced that Mike Richman (15-3) will face Akop Stepanyan (13-6) on November 2nd, at the Long Beach Arena.

I think I still hear the crowd yawning.
