If you read and believe the news about director Fede Alvarez and co-writer Rodo Sayagues not returning for a sequel in the new Evil Dead franchise, which is a darker and gorier version of Sam Raimi’s classic. Well, maybe you should start looking at more than one source for your horror news.
Apparently now, that was just a terrible rumor and you shouldn’t believe everything you read on the internet, even if it’s from a relielable source like Bloody Disgusting or Collider. The real truth behind the sequel is that it’s still alive, so be cheerful for that, but Evil Dead 2 is just not a priority for Alvarez and Sayagues right now.
The confusion started from the original source of the interview with Sayagues, which was just lost in translation, according to Alvarez.
Rodo meant we’re not actually making Evil Dead 2 right now because the priority is Sam [Raimi’s] Army of Darkness 2
Below is the translation Alvarez is referring too.
Look, I am sorry to tell you this but that movie won’t happen. Evil Dead 2 is not going to happen, at least not with us involved. We left that project many months ago because we preferred to put our energies on other things. I don’t know if the producers still have intentions of making it. But what I can tell you is that we are not part of that project.
Like Alvarez said, Army of Darkness 2 is currently priority. So far it sounds like it’s a go with Bruce Campbell, and Sam Raimi returning in the directors chair.
We’ll continue to report more news on Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness 2 as soon as more details are available. Stay tuned on Yell! Magazine.
