by Good or bad, Paranormal Activity is a successful franchise that we have to live with. Honestly, the first one wasn’t all bad, which led to a test of endurance for viewing the second and third installments. But by the time Paranormal Activity 4 was released the concept had long overstayed its welcome, which is likely why the decision was made to try something a little different with Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones.

If you’re following the lead-up to this movie, due out January 3, 2014, then keep a look out for something exciting tomorrow, December 6th, when what appears to be an online scavenger hunt kicks off. The Paranormal Activity is no stranger to building hype, having used Facebook and apps in the past. This time, the last frame in the promo video above , reading “Will you be the first?” seems to imply that the participant(s) who finish first will get an early screening, thereby, being the first to see the movie.

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones synopsis:
After being marked (i.e., bitten by something inhuman, probably demonic) while investigating a dead neighbor’s apartment, Jesse begins to be pursued by mysterious forces while his family and friends try to save him.
Fangoria has also suggested that “it looks as if [Jesse’s] descent converges with previous Paranormal participants like creepy young Katie & Kristi, and Paranormal Activity 2′s Ali.” Does that make this a best-of with a twist?
