No Country for Old Men Review
The Coen brothers continue with their stellar filmmaking in this adaptation of the Cormac McCarthy novel, No Country for Old Men. Less humorous than films like The Ladykillers, Fargo, or The Big Lebowski, but with the same bite and witty dialogue, No Country for Old Men stars Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin, and Javier Bardem.
Bardem steals the show as a cold-blooded killer looking for a suitcase full of money that was found by a hick Texan hunter in the aftermath of a drug deal gone bad. Bardem introduces a new way to murder innocent people using an oxygen tank and a pressure nozzle and he deservedly won an Oscar for his performance.
In fact, No Country for Old Men pulled in four of the shiny men, giving the Coen brothers some overdue respect (Fargo, back in 1996, was the last time they were recognized with an Oscar).
The best movie from 2007 (with Black Sheep, Rogue, Fido, Planet Terror, The Host, 28 Weeks Later, Eastern Promises, Hot Fuzz, American Gangster, Rescue Dawn, The Orphanage, Zodiac, 300, and Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead as others worth your attention), No Country for Old Men cemented the Coen brothers as two of the best filmmakers we’ve seen over the last 20 years.
