It looks like Tom Cruise is stuck in science-fiction limbo since Oblivion because he has another one in that genre coming out soon entitled Edge of Tomorrow. Originally titled All You Need Is Kill, the film is like a mix of Mechwarriors and Saving Private Ryan with all the eye candy visuals an uber nerd can ask for. So I guess it targets me and so far I really like what I see. Story-wise, it just looks like another Hollywood pile of shit, rehashed from a dozen other films. In my opinion, anyone who thinks Edge of Tomorrow will have a compelling story is just getting ready for a train wreck. I didn’t get a chance to read the Japanese novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka yet, but anyone who is interested in the film may want to pick it before it hits the big screen.
Edge of Tomorrow will be released by Warner Bros. on June 6, 2014.
About Edge of Tomorrow
The epic action of Edge of Tomorrow unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world.
Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop—forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again…and again.
But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy.
