Steel Panther: British Invasion – Live At Brixton Academy (2012) – Yell! Magazine’s Full Concert Series

Finals are over and Christmas is just a few days away, which means it’s time for at least one more crazy blowout of a party to vent some steam and stress before you have to get embarrassingly drunk in front of your significant other’s family — ’cause you know you’re bored as hell. That shit just ain’t fun.

If you want fun party metal with a comedy routine to help you slide into the Holiday spirit, Steel Panther is what you want. The concert in the player above was recorded in 2012 at the Brixton Academy in London for the DVD British Invasion (released October 22, 2012).

Surprisingly, the parody hair metal band with ridiculous lyrics and an outrageous stage performance can actually play damn well. And what a genius idea to make fun of a metal genre they love, realizing that they could never make it in today’s metal market (or 2000’s, when they formed). Since forming and changing their name from Metal Shop to Metal Skool and finally to Steel Panther, they’ve put in time as a Van Halen tribute band, appeared in a Discover Card commercial, guested on the Drew Carey Show, and played covers of KISS songs at the Gene Simmons Roast. Since those early years, they continue to play with various legends, such as Vinnie Paul (ex-Pantera).

Officially, Steel Panther released their debut album, Hole Patrol, in 2003, as Metal Shop/Metal Skool. Since then, they’ve released Feel the Steel (2009) and Balls Out (2011), both of which topped the comedy album charts.

Look for Steel Panther’s new album, All You Can Eat, this spring.
